Successful Mule Deer Hunt

We are a group of cousins (firsts, seconds, thirds, fourths...) who at our great-grandmothers funeral decided to stay in touch despite the hurdles of distance and lifes business! Through the example of our Great Grandparents, Grandparents and Parents we have learned the importance of family. So may the lines and (typed) keys of communication remain busy! I love you guys!!!

We had a very fun and successful mule deer hunt this year! The first night we got up there made us worry a little though. We got up to hunting camp around midnight and the wind was blowing like crazy! It blew all night long. We couldn't even sleep because of the noise of the wind hitting our trailer. We thought panels were going to start flying off the trailer. Well, we made it through the long night and started hunting at daybreak. The first thing we did was walked a long creek bottom that is known to have a lot of deer. The wind was still blowing really hard. I've never hunted in wind like this. Well, we walked this creek bottom for about two miles. We were almost to the end when I looked to where Melanie was and saw a fawn running up the creek. Then I saw two does and a big buck running out of the brush right towards me! I aimed my rifle at the deer and I could not hold the gun still. The wind was blowing into my face and was moving my whole body around. To make it even harder the buck was running broadside at a full run! So not only did I have a fast moving target but I also couldn't hold my gun still because of the wind! Well, I found hair in my scope and pulled the trigger and down the buck went!!! Praise the Lord and thank you Melanie for pushing them right to me!!! In the background of the picture you can see the brush the deer were in. So, two hours in to our hunt, I was finished! That was the only buck that we got that day.
How exciting! The Lord has blessed you with a full freezer and we are thankful. Can't wait to taste some antelope and venison in just a couple days! We are so excited to be out there. MT, here we come!
So nice Melanie could help you when you gave her such a great antelope shot.
My shot was pretty stressfulbecause I had 10 avid hunters watching. It was one of the times the whole group was together. Someone spotted this one, said it was big, and said someone should shoot it. They said, "melanie, if you want it, go for it, or someone else will. So I walked over to the fence, rested on it, tried to adjust for wind and distance, and pulled the trigger. I couldn't even get a good look at how big it was because it was so far away, I just had to trust everyone else. After I shot, I really thought I missed. Rick said, "He went down." Well, the deer was on a hill, so I thought he was running down hill, so I kept looking, and I couldn't see him. Rick kept saying, "he went down." I kept looking, finally I turned around and said, "I can't see him" Then, somehow Rick got me to understand that the deer was down as in dead. I thought he was kidding, because I did not think I shot it!
Oh yeah, I gutted it myself, too
That's my girl -- all that hunting experience you gained here in Philadelphia! It all started at Ann Taylor, who would have thought it would continue in the big sky country?
Gutted it and everything! Wow.
Obviously, bargain hunting is great experience for wild game.
